Butler Office Pro Software vs. Microsoft Office Professional 2007

by Rodger H on Oct.01, 2009, under Software Reviews

I’m Sorry that it has been so long since my last post. Things have been, well busy. But here I am again talking about Microsoft Office Professional 2007. To be honest with you this post is really in response to some subscribers who asked that I give my opinion on Butler Office Pro software since some of them had actually “bought it and loved it!” And since this is really a Microsoft Office Professional 2007 blog I felt I needed to say a little about both products.
It may surprise you to learn that I use both Microsoft Office Professional 2007 and Butler Office Pro software. Why you ask? I’ll tell you — that’s what I’m here for, right? Because both have their place. I’m not going to tell you which I use most of the time because that could be a conflict of interest to this website but I will mention a few things I like and hate about both products.

Butler Office Pro software
ButlerOfficePro.com
Butler Office Pro software is very similar to Microsoft Office accept that it does not include an email program. If you were to write Butler Office Pro software support about the email client they would refer you to the FREE email client Mozilla Thunderbird. So if you are fine with using Thunderbird you are fine. I personally use Thunderbird exclusively.
Butler Office Pro‘s user interface reminds one of the more traditional Microsoft Office Professional 2003 interface integrating buttons rather than drop down menu’s. I personally prefer the buttons. The buttons are customizable so you can display only the ones you want and when you want to do something the “button” is right there. No drop down menu delays.
One of the best features of Butler Office Pro software over Microsoft Office is stability. I don’t know how many times I have had Microsoft Office Professional 2007 freeze up right in the middle of a long project only to lose all my work. The Butler Office Pro software suite is much more stable, especially the Mac version, but the Windows version also works well in the stability department.

“How about price?”

Butler Office Pro $59.95
From the ButlerOfficePro.com website:

Includes Microsoft Office “compatible” equivalents to:
Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access
*Plus includes a Scientific Formula tabulator and a Paint/Draw/Photo edit application.

Microsoft Versions:
Microsoft Office Retail Store
Microsoft Office 2007 $399.95
What’s included: Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

Microsoft Office Professional 2007 $499.95
What’s included: Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
Plus: Access, Outlook with Business Contact Manager, and Publisher

So, if price means anything to you Butler Office Pro software is a clear winner!
Is the price difference a big difference in quality? Amazingly, no. Butler Office Pro software is incredibly professional in performance and I have many writers tell me they like it more than Microsoft Office Professional 2007. It is really just a point of preference.
But there are a few areas where Microsoft Office Professional 2007 outperforms Butler Office Pro software. Microsoft Office 2007 has a lot more templates built into the program than Butler Office Pro. BUT you are able to download and use the same templates in Butler Office Pro from the Microsoft website. Microsoft Office Professional 2007 does (generally) start up faster BUT that is because it does not have an integrated interface like Butler Office Pro does.
What do I mean by an “integrated interface”?
Microsoft Office Professional 2007 uses separate, individual programs that make up a software package called Microsoft Office Professional 2007. While Butler Office Pro software integrated all its programs into one unit. When you start up one program you start up all of them. This speed difference is really only noticed in the start up of the program and is not that much different but it is noticeable. Once you have started up there is no noticeable difference in performance other than Butler Office Pro’s better stability.
Another thing I like about Butler Office Pro software is their customer service compared to Microsoft Office Professional 2007. Butler Office Pro software only has email customer support but it is fast (usually within 24 hours). This is unlike Microsoft Office Professional 2007 customer service where you may never get an answer to your question or perhaps it will be answered by someone you cannot understand because they are speaking the English language in a heavy Indian accent.

As far as security is concerned I am up in the air. Normally I would say Microsoft Office Professional 2007 would have the best security due to its boundless amount of employees working towards security perfection. But the very fact that so many people seem to hate Microsoft or its founder Bill Gates tends to lend security vulnerabilities to its products since malicious people attack the company and its software on a regular basis. I have never had a personal security problem with either product although I may have had an issue with the Microsoft version on my Windows computer. I generally use a Mac and have both Butler Office Pro software and Microsoft Office Professional 2007 on all my Windows and Mac laptops/desktops.

Disappointments
I do have a few beefs with Microsoft and Microsoft Office Professional 2007. Don’t get me wrong, I do like it but I am really disappointed with the way Microsoft makes certain types of changes to glean yet more money out of our pockets.
Just what am I referring to? How about the new supposed open source file format better known as docx. Why did we need a new format at all? The doc format seemed to work fine for a billion users. What the new format is REALLY about is money.
All the new format does is compress the old doc format. That’s it! Nothing special. Their excuse is that it saves hard drive space. You’ve got to be kidding me! Do they think we are a bunch of morons or something? Hard drives are huge now. I don’t think the tiny doc files were really an issue.
No, what was really happening was that Microsoft Office Professional 2007 was drooping in sales and competing products such as Butler Office Pro software was starting to take a market share. Microsoft needed to come out with a new plan that forced people to buy their product. The new features in Microsoft Office Professional 2007 are pretty cool and I like them but I feel very “put out” about the whole docx thing. People who don’t know any better think they need to buy Microsoft Office Professional 2007 if they want compatibility with their old doc’s and people sending them docx’s from Microsoft Office’s new docx formats. So hundreds of millions of people were forced buy the new product for no other reason that to keep up with the new format. Butler Office Pro software DOES allow us to read/write/edit in docx format quit well. Also, Butler Office Pro software allows the user to read/write/save in many formats that Microsoft Office Professional 2007 refused to allow its users to attempt using; I’m referring to formats used by incompatible competitors and the many open source formats available today. What I like about Butler Office Pro is that it has the largest compatibility out there – and continues to be compatible with Microsoft Office.
Butler Office Pro software does have a couple of disappointments as well. As of the date of writing this article Bulter Office Pro software does not have a solution for Mac’s new Snow Leopard operating system (Click here to check if the new version has come out yet). I have been assured that they will be releasing a version but as I understand it they don’t want to make the same premature mistake that Mac made. Apparently Snow Leopard has some flaws and every time they change something everyone’s programs need new updates. So Butler Software Solutions appears to be waiting for a complety stable version of Mac Snow Leopard before it releases a version for the OS. So Bulter Office Pro software executives are a little slower than Microsoft with new releases but at least they want to actually give you something that has been tested on their computers before its release rather than on our computers.

Conclusion
If you are a big business or someone with lots of spare cash to throw around then I would say Microsoft Office Professional 2007 is your choice. But if you have that much cash I’d also recommend buying Butler Office Pro software. Since your so rich and everything you should decide which you like best for yourself. Microsoft Office Professional 2007 is supposed to be the latest and greatest. It integrates with all the other Microsoft Office products and hey, maybe you actually like the new drop down menu design. And it has a lot of great templates.
Butler Office Pro software is also compatible Microsoft Office Professional 2007, has the ability for you to import better templates and is at least $340 cheaper!
I own both versions and I use both versions. Yes, I do prefer the one over the other. I use one almost all the time.
Which version is my favorite?
Come closer to the screen … closer, no closer–
Now scroll down….

I’ll tell you in part 2 of Butler Office Pro Software vs. Microsoft Office Professional 2007 Suite!

Until next time download the trial version of both Butler Office Pro software and Microsoft Office Professional 2007.

My Full Microsoft Office Standard Review

by Rodger H on Dec.30, 2008, under Articles

(Revised) Originating Author: Carl Eppsteen
The full version of Microsoft Office Standard released in 2007 has been described as “user friendly and well organized”. The full standard version of Microsoft Office includes: Microsoft Excel, Outlook Express, Power Point, and Microsoft Word. The interface is beautiful and the menu options are easy to navigate. There is a “ribbon” on top of the window that contains all of the related buttons categorized together. At first it may appear confusing, but it is very easy to get used to. You will even see options that you may have never known about! Many people appreciate not having to deal with drop down menus. Microsoft put in a lot of effort to improve the features in Microsoft Office Standard 2007.

The Quick Launch tool bar allows you the choice of pinning certain commands for short cuts. Its default settings are already helpful and highly useful. Two of the Quick Launch default short cuts include the “save” and “undo” buttons, which of course are always helpful.

The standard version of Microsoft Office 2007 also offers business features. It is very easy to browse through the templates and to choose the one you want to work with. You can even open up the template window in internet explorer without having to close out of Microsoft Office. Microsoft.com also offers many templates that can be downloaded from the website to use with Microsoft Office.

All in all, Microsoft Office Standard 2007 has a good interface, easy features, and excellent performance. The 2007 upgrade is an improvement from the 2003 version. It is very easy to make all of your documents look their best. Whether you need to use the Microsoft Office Standard Suite for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Outlook, you will find the features user friendly.

Of course you can also try out Butler OfficePro found at ButlerOfficePro.com. Butler Office Pro is a Microsoft Office alternative that is currently priced at $59.95 instead of $300 for the MS Office version.

Microsoft Office Professional 2007 Quick Keys

by Rodger H on Dec.29, 2008, under Articles, Uncategorized

(Revised) Originating Author: Wesley Skiles
All of the Microsoft Office programs include the use of quick keys. Quick keys are simple short cuts for functions that are done using the ‘Ctrl’ key and a corresponding letter. There are a few quick keys that are fairly well known but there are many more that users do not use that are just as helpful. All quick keys are designed to speed up the process of document creation by eliminating the time that it takes the user to use the mouse. They also usually use a letter that is easy to remember for that quick key function (like using ‘S’ for Save). While the quick keys reviewed in this article are specifically from the Microsoft Office software
many are universal and can be used in nearly all Windows based programs.

Each quick key is listed with the keys necessary to push for the function, its name and a brief description of its meaning or use. Some additional notes may provide extra information for specific programs or functions.

1. Save [Ctrl+S] – Saves the file. If you have not saved your file yet by the first time you use this quick key, the ‘Save As’ box will appear.

2. Select All [Ctrl+A] – This will select, or highlight, all content within the document. This also works within form entries on websites.

3. Copy [Ctrl+C] – Copies the selected content. Usually always used with the Paste quick key.

4. Paste [Ctrl+V] –Paste’s the copied content into a new location or document after clicking in the desired location.

Note for Excel: If you copy on cell, you can highlight multiple cells and have the copied content pasted into each of the selected cells. This works for text and formulas.

5. Cut [Ctrl+X] – Cut is exact like ‘Copy’ except for the fact that if removes the original content. It is as if you are literally cutting it from one location and moving it to another, while copy makes a duplicate. (If you are moving content to a new location within the same document it is also possible to select the desired content and click and drag it to its desired location.)

Notes on Cut, Copy & Paste: The letters for Cut and Paste may not seem obvious at first but here is a way to remember them. They are all in order on the key board (X,C,V), Copy is already easy to remember and Paste it right next to it (remember they are almost always used together). Cut is next to Copy in function and location and ‘X’ is similar to the shape of a pair of scissors.

6. Underline [Ctrl+U] – Underlines selected text.

7. Italics [Ctrl+I] – Italicizes selected text.

8. Bold [Ctrl+B] – Bolds selected text.

9. Undo [Ctrl+Z] – Undoes the most recent action. In some programs, including Microsoft Word, this can be done a number of times consecutively. Undoing the last, second to last, third to last item and so on.

10. Open [Ctrl+O] – Opens the ‘Open’ box so you can open a new file.

11. New [Ctrl+N] – Opens a new document within the program that you are currently using.

12. New Slide[Ctrl+M] – This PowerPoint only quick key will insert a new blank slide into your presentation where you have your cursor.

The quick keys listed here are some of the most commonly used ones. As you may have noticed in just the short list above, we have used every letter in the bottom row of the keyboard plus some. There may actually be a quick key function for each letter on the keyboard. You can open the ‘Help’ section within any program to search for program specific quick keys.

Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server 2007 – the Basics

by Rodger H on Dec.27, 2008, under Articles

(Revised) Originating Author: Clint Jhonson
What is Sharepoint
? A rough explanation would be a platform used for document management
developed by the computer software giant Microsoft. The main use for it is for hosting websites that can be used for access of shared documents and workplaces. Other applications can also be accessed through it, among which we can name blogs and wikis, as well as others from within a browser.

The word Sharepoint commonly makes reference to either Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server 2007 or Windows Sharepoint Services
. There are many other applications that can be related to the Sharepoint family, but mainly the term refers to these two.

In order to understand I should explain what both the Sharepoint Server 2007 and the Sharepoint Services mean. The second one is a free add-on for Windows Server which can provide the base collaborative infrastructure because it supports the editing of documents based on HTTP and HTTPS.

Other advantages of the Windows Sharepoint Services include the organization of documents in specific libraries facilitating their access, wikis and blogs. You can also embed web parts into Sharepoint pages in order to improve the functionality for the users. Among them we can name alerts, discussion boards, to-do lists, workflows and many others.

This brings us to the topic at hand: Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server 2007. A component of the Microsoft Office server suite, this is built on the Windows Sharepoint Services and adds more functionality to it. Better document management, navigation features, enterprise search are just some of the numerous advantages the Sharepoint Server 2007 presents for its beneficiaries.

These products appeal to companies and businesses in particular that conducts numerous daily activities. They provide the much needed control through user friendly interfaced software. In order to benefit from all of these platforms and applications, you have to choose a web host.

Once you have chosen your host, you will be able to share the information using the largest infrastructure available on the planet: the internet. The hosted Sharepoint 2007 applications will give a CEO access to the activities undertaken at each moment in the company.

The hosted Sharepoint 2007 applications also improve the collaboration between various departments of your company. They will conduct daily activities much faster than before, saving your company’s time and money, an essential part of business.

The host for these services should be chosen with great care. The best choice would be of a company that has experience and has hosted Sharepoint 2007 applications throughout its activity. Another important factor would be the provided support.

If you are interested in such a company and have trouble finding it, be sure to visit the website hostedex.com. Here you will find a team that has experience and provides great support for the hosted Sharepoint 2007 applications in its activity.

Microsoft Office Professional 2007: More Fast, More Advance

by Rodger H on Dec.26, 2008, under Articles

Merits of Microsoft Office 2003

by Rodger H on Dec.25, 2008, under Articles

Akin to the previous versions of Microsoft office, is a wrap up of software programs
deliberated for various office work activities. Excel, Access, Word, Outlook, OneNote, Vision, PowerPoint, InfoPath, FrontPage, Project, Publisher and Live Meeting are all programs comprised in the Microsoft Office 2003. Each of these programs is sold as different software merchandise, but it the 2003 merges them all together under a variety of vast rate price tags.

The old versions of the Office packages are entirely good but the 2003 Microsoft Office sing its own praises a more absolute package than any of this versions, offers more programs and the most up to date versions of the software available. This new versions are often fundamentally the same thing at a negligible cost as the older versions only updated but can suck someone into their excitement deal only to ascertain that he or she didn’t need it because he owns the same item in another form.

Businesses that have already taken up the use of the 2003, I can guarantee that they are booming in business due to its ability to create visual presentations, coalesce both text and graphical designs, mail letters, organize online meetings and craft graphical designs.

People who are mostly involved with staging, text and systematizing of statistics I would recommend they use the 2003 because of programs like excel, word and PowerPoint which are very convenient for this kind of work. Programs like excel and word can be used for trailing ones chattels very easily.

The new updated Microsoft can be bought at any store that transmit computer software but the old version will do so don’t throw it away if you have it. To those who carry out a lot of office work and immersed in the new parcel they would probably love it.

Of course, there is also Butler Office Pro! A Microsoft Office alternative that is both compatible with Microsoft Office and a heck of a lot cheaper. Whichever way you go, Microsoft Office or Butler Office Pro you certainly cannot live without an Office Suite.
